Content Design
A Content Type defines a specific Content Item's format. Content Types may include local fields that are specific to the Content Type, shared fields that are common to multiple Content Types, and system fields that the CMS defines. The Content Type also defines the Content Editor that displays the Content Type's fields to users for creating or editing a Content Item.
New Content Type Wizard
The New Content Type wizard allows you to create a new Content Type object that appears in the Content Design view; however, additional details of the Content Type are entered in the Content Type editor.
To access the New Content Type wizard:
- From the Menu bar choose File > New > Content Type.
- In Content Design view, right-click the Content Type folder or a folder under it and choose New > Content Type.
The New Content Type wizard consists of the following dialogs:
New Content Type Communities Dialog
The Communities dialog is the first dialog of the New Content Type Wizard. Use this dialog to specify basic properties of the Content Type and the Communities that it is visible to.
Field Descriptions
Content Type name - Required. System name for Content Type.
Label - Name displayed to users for Content Type.
Description - Description of Content Type.
Available Communities - Communities that may have access to Content Type.
Visible to these communities - Communities given access to Content Type.
Filter - Pattern that each Community displayed under Available Communities must match.
Percussion CM1 developers should always select the Default Community.
New Content Type Workflows Dialog
The Workflows dialog is the second dialog of the New Content Type Wizard. Use this dialog to specify the Workflows that users can associate with the Content Type and the default Workflow that is associated with the Content Type.
Field Descriptions
Available workflows - Workflows that can be associated with the Content Type.
Allowed workflows - At least one required. Workflows associated with the Content Type.
Filter - Pattern that each Workflow displayed under Available workflows must match.
Default workflow - Required. Workflow that is assigned to Content Items of the Content Type if no other Workflow is chosen when the Content Item is created.
When a Workflow is chosen as the Default workflow, if it is not in the Allowed workflows list, it is automatically moved to Allowed workflows. If you move the Default workflow from Allowed workflows to Available workflows, the first Allowed workflow becomes the Default workflow
Percussion CM1 Developers should always select the Default Workflow and Local Content workflow, along with all custom workflows defined on the system. The Default Worklfow should be selected as the Default Workflow for the type.
