Users

The Percussion CMS is delivered with three out-of-the-box users. 

• Contributor
• Editor
• Admin

Each of these users is correlated with a role in the system in order to illustrate the permissions associated with each role type.  Percussion recommends that you change the password for each of these users, but keep them as a reference point.  

You can add users by manually creating them or by importing them from LDAP/AD.

Adding a User

To add a new user:

1. In the top navigation menu, select Administration and then select the Users tab.
2. Click the New User button.
3. Enter the Name of the new user. Usernames are case sensitive and must be alphanumeric; punctuation marks and other special characters cannot be used. 
4. Enter the Password of the new user, and enter it again in the Confirm Password field. Passwords are case sensitive and must be alphanumeric; punctuation marks and other special characters cannot be used.
5. If you want the user to receive notifications, enter an email address.
6. A user must have at least one role to be able to see and act on content. To assign Roles to the user, in the Available Roles box, click on the role you want to assign. Click the > button to move the Role to the Assigned Roles box.
7. Click Save.

Importing Users from LDAP/Active Directory

You can import users defined in an LDAP or Active Directory server into Percussion. The password is maintained on the LDAP/AD server. Note that if the user name changes, you must re-import the user and assign Roles to the newly-imported user. To import users you must first configure the LDAP connection. 

To import a user from LDAP/AD:

1. In the top navigation menu, select Administration and then select the Users tab.
2. Click the Import Directory Users button.
   Note: If the button is disabled, no LDAP/AD server is accessible. Configure access to the LDAP server and check the configuration to ensure it is correct.
3. The browser displays the Import Directory Users dialog.
   
4. Enter the first few characters of the name of the user you want to add to Percussion in the Name starts with field and click the Search button.
   Percussion queries the LDAP or AD server and returns names that match the characters you entered. Note that only the first two hundred names are returned. If your query results in more than 200 names being returned, you should enter a more detailed query to return a smaller set of names.
5. Check the box next to the name of each user you want to import. When you have checked all the users you want to import, click the Import button.
   The users are imported and added to the list of users of Percussion. All imported users are assigned to the Contributor role. To add the user to a different role, select the user, then select the role under Available Roles and click the  button.

Modifying a User

You can change the password of a user and change the user's role assignments. You cannot change the username. To modify a user:

1. In the top navigation menu, select Administration and then select the Users tab.
2. Click on the user you want to modify.
3. Click the edit button.
4. To change the user's password, enter the new password in the Password and Confirm Password fields. Passwords are case sensitive and must be alphanumeric; punctuation marks and other special characters cannot be used.
5. To change the user's e-mail, enter a new e-mail address in the Email field.
6. To add a new role assignment, in the Available Roles box, click on the role you want to assign. Click the > button to move the role to the Assigned Roles box.
7. To remove a role assignment, In the Assigned Roles box, click on the role you want to remove. Click the < button to move the role to the Available Roles box.
   NOTE: A user must have at least one role to see and act on content. If you remove all roles, the user will be able to log in to Percussion, but will not see any sites, pages, or assets. Therefore, each user should have at least one role.
8. Click Save.

Deleting a User

When you delete a user, the user can no longer log in to the system. The user will still be recorded as the creator or modifier of items. To delete a user, select the user you want to delete and click the delete button. Percussion displays a confirmation dialog.
